Welcome to module 6! This module is all about finishing up your WordPress installation tweaks and getting your homepage content up on the site.
Gather Notes on Your Product
The first thing you need to do is gather your notes for this product. Amazon makes it easy for us! This is especially true if you’ve chosen a product Amazon is really pushing and has great content for.
As an affiliate, you are allowed to use Amazon’s content on your site. However, I do not recommend using it as-is. Your goal is to write a killer piece of homepage content that will really draw conversions.
So, I grab their content to use as my “notes” as I type my own content.
My notes include:
- Amazon’s product specs (listed toward the top of the product page)
- Amazon’s product description
- Amazon’s product review (if applicable)
- Positive customer reviews
- Negative customer reviews
Write Your Article
I look at these notes as I write my article.
Your article is going to be an amazing piece of content — it’s not going to be some fluff you just pop out, it’s going to be something you’d be proud to show anyone in your family.
That doesn’t mean it’s going to take you a long time to write it! Amazon gives you everything you need — you just have to put it in a format that will really pull conversions.
Your article should include:
- A headline/title containing your keyword and other compelling text
- An introduction that contains your keyword and draws the reader in — hit on those benefits like that it’s an awesome product that going to make their life easier/really benefit them in some way, has the lowest price, etc.
- Body copy that hits on benefits as well. Really paint a picture of what they are going to do with this item and why it’s so great
- Don’t be afraid to hit on any negatives — people want to know, warts and all. Just remember that you are trying to sell the item, and you’ve chosen one you think is a winning product, so no worries there.
- Don’t just write a sea of text — set the text apart with short paragraphs, bullet points, sub-heads, and bolding
Use My Article as a Template
Feel free to use my article as a template: http://gr-4ngriddle.com/
It’s about 800 words long, is useful to the reader, and is more than likely going to crush any other niche marketing competition out there. I can absolutely tighten up the content copy to increase conversions, but I won’t spend anymore time on it until I know it’s going to be profitable for me.
Post Your Article as a Page on your Site
Now that you have your article, it’s time to put it on the homepage.
Go to your pages section and create a new page. Paste your article in, create your headline, enter the information for the All in One SEO plugin at the bottom of the page, and publish.
Set The Page You’ve Just Created as the Homepage
Next, go to your settings area.
Select:
- reading
- front page displays
- a static page
- your content
(note: this option will not show up unless you’ve published your page.
Review of Accomplishments so Far
Here is what you should have accomplished to this point:
- Chosen a product
- Chosen and registered a domain name
- Set up WordPress, complete with theme and plugins
- Created a mini post to “feed” the search engines
- Created a killer piece of homepage content
My Example Site
Again, here is my site as an example: http://gr-4ngriddle.com/
Move Forward — Take the Plunge!
If you are being held back on any of those steps, ask yourself how you can get past this. Is it a silly little problem that’s bothering you? Are you frozen in the face of choosing a product to promote? Are you unsure of your writing skills or speed?
Just move forward! Do what you can to learn what you need to learn to move past this roadblock…or, change your mindset. I always keep in mind what Jason Fladlien has said about making decisions. Give yourself 60 seconds to make a decision (one that won’t dramatically impact your life) and that’s it! Take the available information and your skills, and just go for it! |
